Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation today while discharging its Constructional right and provisions of the Standing order of the House of Assembly slams over the actions some construction companies handling State roads against the completion agenda of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel's completion agenda.
The committee during it's follow-up inspection after 2022 budget defense went to project site to ascertain if the funds appropriate for projects has been judiciously used.
While inspecting 8.5km Okoroete - Elile -Amadaka - Kampa road, the Committee led by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudoh and Member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency frowned at the action of Nigerpet Structures Limited Company, he further observed that the level of work done at the site is not commensurate with the amount released by the State Government to the Company.
According to the project manager Engr. Francis, the contract was awarded in 2019 at the contract sum of 3.1Billion Naira and mobilization of 1Billion paid, but during inspection it was observed that the company has only done 2km drainage leaving the roads undone.
The youth leader of the Community Comrade Samuel Gogo Adasi while addressing the committee said that the company has disconnected the community for Electricity for over 7 months, not complied with the local content Law of Nigeria, no cooperate social responsibility project in the community and poor working relationship between the company and the communities.
Responding, the spokeman and the Manager Director of Nigerpet Structures Limited Company, Mr. Sunday Dopoola assured the committee that they will restore the broken electric poles and restore light to the community as well as improving on the employment of indigenes.

At Airport Road - Nsit Atai - Okopedi 14.5km road, constructed by DPR Construction Company, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation led by it's Chairman Rt Hon. Uduak Odudoh and member representing Ikot Abasi/ Eastern Obolo State Constituency, today said they were there to look at the extent of the work done if it complement its funding and also to know the challenges that they are facing.
However, the committee expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work done by the contracting firm handling the road projects after being well funded, and described the action as a delebrate act to disrupt Governor Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda
The State Manager of DPL Engr. Innocent Polycarp who was on hand to receive the committee, confirmed that the state government has funded the project very well but attributed the delay to raining seasons. he added that the contract commences in October 2019.
The project Manager of the supervising Ministry of works Engr. Asuquo Odiong, the consultant Engr. Fred Asuquo of Best Crest Engineering limited (BICL) in their ratings jointly said that they are not satisfied with the effort of the company and blame the effort of the company as being too slow despite being well funded by the state government.
However, the committee having observed that the company may not have the capability to do the work, has no working equipments and don't have good working relationship with the community said that the Committee will invite the management of the company and the Commissioners of the supervising Ministry for a meeting at the assembly complex for more questioning.
