Akwa Ibom Assembly Update

 Williams Akpabio - Information Unit (AKHA) Uyo The 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has today cleared and confirmed Justice Ekaete Obot as the substantive  Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State. The House resolved this after due consideration of the letter forwarded to the House of Assembly by his Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel in line with Section 271(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. Recalled that His Lordship Justice Ekaete Obot  took Oaths of Office and Allegiance, as the acting State Chief Judge by Governor Udom Emmanuel following the retirement of Justice Godwin Abraham on Wednesday, 30th June 2021. Meanwhile, the clerk of the House Mrs Mandu Umoren was directed to communicate the House Resolution to His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has nominated a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Paul Ekpo, as Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board. This was contained in a memo sent to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey at Tuesday Plenary. Others nominated include Mr Moses Enoidem, Mr Nkorok Ambrose, Ini Friday Akpan, Member and Mr Johnny Udoh, Member.                     Ini Friday Akpan Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, referred the matter to the House Committee on Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for further legislative actions and to report back to the House within two days.

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, on Tuesday, decorated five newly promoted officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to him and the Assembly with new ranks. The Speaker, who performed the brief ceremony in his office shortly after plenary, said the promoted officers are being rewarded for their diligence, hard work, commitment and dedication to duties.  Rt. South-South Speakers’ Forum, through its Chairman and Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has appointed Mr. Donatus Archibong Okon as its Administrative Secretary. According to SA (Media) to Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Mr. darlington Udobong, the appointment of Mr. Okon, via letter No. AKHA/SP/30/VII/1114 signed by the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr. Charles Iwatt, and dated November 24, 2020, takes effect from November 16, 2020.   The letter also stated that “It is the Forum’s hope that you will add value and employ your best attributes in the discharge of your duties,”. Mr. Okon, a native of Uruan Local Government Area, holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja.
