A'IBOM ASSEMBLY OKAYS APPOINTMENT OF STATE CHIEF JUDGE

 Williams Akpabio - Information Unit (AKHA) Uyo The 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has today cleared and confirmed Justice Ekaete Obot as the substantive  Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State. The House resolved this after due consideration of the letter forwarded to the House of Assembly by his Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel in line with Section 271(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. Recalled that His Lordship Justice Ekaete Obot  took Oaths of Office and Allegiance, as the acting State Chief Judge by Governor Udom Emmanuel following the retirement of Justice Godwin Abraham on Wednesday, 30th June 2021. Meanwhile, the clerk of the House Mrs Mandu Umoren was directed to communicate the House Resolution to His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel.

HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY OKAYS RECTIFICATION OF ACCEPTABLE MAP OF AKWA IBOM STATE

Williams Akpabio - Information Unit (AKHA), Uyo. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today resolved to rectify map of Akwa Ibom State, this follows a motion moved at the floor of the House by Rt. Hon. David Lawrence, member representing Eket State Constituency under Order three Rule one of the Standing Order of the House. The House resolved that the Surveyor-General of Akwa Ibom State should take immediate and appropriate steps to produce generally acceptable, approved and gazzetted map for the state and ensure that it is approved and gazzetted. That  all obnoxious, obsolete and inappropriate enactment or such processes concerning affected and relating to proper mapping should be urgently reviewed. The House considered that in producing the official map of Akwa Ibom State, the Surveyor General should be guided by history, such as the facts that the creation of Akwa Ibom State in 1987 out of the then Cross River State did not in any way alter the landscape of the coastal local governm...

HON.(BARR.) ESSE GERALD UMOH MOVED MOTION FOR THE URGENT NEED TO REVISE AND REPEAL OBSOLETE LAWS OF AKWA IBOM STATE

Williams Akpabio - (Information Unit) AKHA, Uyo Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly yesterday in it's plenary passed a resolution mandating the State Ministry of Justice to collaborate with the State Law Reform Commission to immediately commence an examination of the laws of Akwa Ibom State with a view to identifying laws of Akwa Ibom State which are no longer in tune with contemporary realities and submit it findings to the house within one month Similarly, the house urges the Executive arm of government to work with the house of Assembly to ensure that the obsolete laws are expunged the obsolete laws are expunged from the legal syatem. This follows a motion moved by Hon. Esse Gerald Umoh Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency on the urgent need to revise and repeal obsolete laws of the State. These laws include: 1. A Bill for a Law to Establish the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency and for Other Matters Connected Therewith

'A Bill for a Law to Establish the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency and for Other Matters Connected Therewith' was yesterday read the first time and committed to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for rescheduling. The bill has Honourable Member Representing Abak State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong  as it lead sponsor and 14 other Honourable members as co-sponsors. The bill seeks to provide quality and free health care services for the people of the State, as it shall make provision, provide healthcare services to residents and indigenes of the State at cheaper rates, while involving the private health services provider when passed into law.  The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, shortly after the first reading of the Bill, refered it to the House Committee on Business, Ethics, Rules and Privilege for rescheduling.

Idung, member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Thursday's plenary moved motion for urgent recruitment of Instructors for Government Technical Colleges in Akwa Ibom State. Worried about the dearth of instructors in the Three Technical College, he described as being inconsistent with standard of NBTE, in the department of Motor Vehicle/Technical Workshop, Electrical Installation/Maintenance Practice, Fabrication and welding, Brick-laying/Block-laying Concreting, Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice, Air Condition Engineering and Refrigerator in the following institutions: 1. Government Technical College, Mbioto II, Etinan Local Government Area. 2. Government Technical College, Ikot Uko Ika. Ika Local Government Area. 3. Government Technical College, Abak.
