AKS HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY INSPECTS PROJECT SITES AT ORON, UDUNG UKO, OKOBO

.... promised to seek for temporary measures in order to save life and to avoid further devastation at the grooved and erosion ravine at Afiakurue-Oron Road, Oron.



House of Assembly Committee on Works as part of their oversight function today embark on inspection tour for on the-spot assessment to ascertain work progress and quality of job done so as to enable his committee know how best contractors  manages money released to them by the State government.


The team led by the committee Chairman Rt. Hon. David Lawrence member representing Eket State Constituency visited a construction site of 12.7km Road in Udung Uko with a spur to Eyoabasi Community in Oron L.G.A. constructed by Evomec Global Service LTD and was received by the Company's Project Engineer, Engr. Kenneth Odigie, Surveyor on Site Surv. Joyce Abaonu and Community Liasin Officer Mr. John Esio.


Accessing the the project site, the Project Engineer Kenneth Odigie, who took the lawmakers round the project site, assured that the project will be completed and on time. He also promised to fix all failed section of the road as was observed by the committee


Rt. Hon. David Lawrence in his word "We are serious and determine to ensure the competition Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel is actualized. Therefore, we will not tolerate any excuse from contractors who are  duly funded. So, ensure you make good use of the money released to you because we expect reasonable level of progesss when we shall return to this site in few weeks".


The astute lawmaker urged contractors to display professionalism from earthworks to asphalting for State Assembly will not be lenient with any contractor whose job is below designed standard


Member representing Mbo State Constituency, Hon. Chief Effiong Johnson, appreciated the governor for matching words with action. He requested for an extension of Udung Uko secretariat road project to link up to the bridge where the road  terminates. 



In a vote of thanks, the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) Mr. John Essio, said "We are deeply happy with Governor Udom Emmanuel in his magnanimity decided to salvage the people of Udung Uko through the construction of this road after 24 years of pains; We will not fail to reciprocate this gesture when the time comes". He expressed his appreciation to the lawmakers for rising to their legislative responsibilities. He further added that their regular visit will spur the contactor to double up effort and fasten completion of the road project. 

The committee also inspected the most life threatening and heart-touching ravine at Afiakurue-Oron Road by Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church which has been widened and deepened by erosion, this  has also claimed houses and landed property,  rendering people homeless. 

Here the Committee having seen how life threatening and how the situation is dangerous to health, to avoid lost of life, the Committee chairman promised to discuss with the Commissioner of Work seeking for temporary measures in order to save life and to avoid further devastation pending when Remap will give a full and lasting solution to it.

Consequently, at Oron Urban, Engr. Shola of Wizchinco Engineering Limited, whose company handles emergency works and completion of Oron Urban road area explained that Oron Beach road which is 6.3km with 2.1km bridge is at 70% completion. Shola added that Market square is at 71% completion, Murtala road 40% and  Custom road 100%.


The Committee further stop at Nung Atai Eta - Atabong Road, to ascertain the level of work done at the 6km Nung Atai, Ebighi Atai, Obufi and  Atabong road in Okobo LGA handled by Dubai Construction Nig. However, the Site manager siad the project which is at 30% will be delivered on or before 23rd September, 2021 for commissioning.


Committee Members in the entourage during the  inspection exercise were;  Member representing Oron/Udung Uko, Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey, Chief Whip of the State Assembly/member representing Ini State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Bassey, Member Nsit Ibom, Hon. Ifiok OS Udoh Hon. (Chief) Effiong Johnson (Mbo), Member Mkpat Enin, Barr. Victor Ekwere, and Committee's Clerk, Uduak Okon.
