HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY GRILLS MKPAT ENIN COUNCIL BOSS, LEGISLATORS OVER ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS

Mkpat Enin Local Government Legislature and the council Chairman Hon. Aniekpon Eno Ekpo today appears before Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the Chairmanship of Rt Hon. Mark Esset, member Representing Nsit Atai State Constituency to answer questions over the petition sent to House of Assembly.
The petition dated October 6, 2021 and signed by 10 out of 15 Councillors of the council described the actions of the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area Hon. Anieokpon Eno Ekpo as "Gross Misconduct", the petitioners seek for suspension of the the council boss for violating section 66(1), 66(3) and section 68 of the local government administration law of Akwa Ibom State. the petition alleged this:
1. Worrisome rise in insecurity in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area
2. Misappropriation of Local Government Internally Generated Revenue
3. Abuse of Office
4. Borrowing. with the Local Government Name
5. Misappropriation of funds
The petition further alleged that the council Chairman connived secretly to auction a sounded proof generating set belonging to the local government without any notice or due process, preempted to have sold Council Grader and wonders if he's the one sponsoring criminal acts in the local government due to the lackadaisical attitude of the Executive Chairman and the relationship between the security agencies and the government of the day.
The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and member Representing Nsit Atai State Constituency Affairs Rt. Hon. Mark Esset in his remark said that the committee is empowered by law and the Standing order of the House to perform the actions; speaking further, the Assemblyman assured Mkpat Enin Council that the committee will be unbiased, just and fair in the discharge of their oversight duties.
Similarly, and for transparency and clarity in the discharge of the investigation, Rt. Hon.Uduak Odudo (Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo) and Hon. David Lawrence (Eket) seek to know if the Council Chairman was served a copy of the petition and how he was served.
Defending himself, the Council Chairman Hon. Anieokpon Ekpo said that he has never been served of the petition, and if he will serve before the committee, pleaded for time to study the petition for proper response;
Accordingly, the Spokesman for the Legislators, Hon. (Barr.) Elisha Udosen, a Councillor representing Ikpa Ibom ward 3, in his argument said that all efforts to serve the council Chairman a copy of the petition through his Council Secretary proved abortive.
However, the meeting was adjourned to reconvene on Friday 22nd October, 2021.
