A'IBOM ASSEMBLY PASSES 142.7BN SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET 2020 INTO LAW

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in its plenary today passes 142.7BN supplementary budget into law. this follows the report of the House Committee on Appropriation and  Finance as presented by the Chairman Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudo, member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency on "A Bill for a Law to make supplementary provisions for the Service of Akwa Ibom State Government for the year ending on 31st December, 2021."


The supplementary estimates is expected to cater for Agriculture, Special Duties (Airport), Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Works, Transport and Fire service etc.


The Bill gave a proposition of  N142,724,539,000 made up of N39,302,000,000 for Recurrent Expenditure and N103,422,539,000 for Capital Expenditure.


The revised budget size for year 2021 stands at N598,975,209,000 made up of N254,101,917,250 for Recurrent Services and N344,873,291,750 for Capital Expenditure.


Recalled that Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly at it's plenary tuesday' 14th September, 2021  received  "A Bill for a law to make supplementary provision for the service of Akwa Ibom State Government for the year ending on 31st December, 2021" from the state government for consideration and approval.


This Bill according to the House Leader Rt. Hon. Udo Kieran and member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, while presenting the Bill at the floor of the house said the supplementary estimates were based on inflation, exchange rate and other financial accidentals. He also noted that natural disasters occurred in the past few months, were not captured in the budget, but require urgent government intervention.


Meanwhile, The Speaker of the 7th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey who presided  over the plenary directed the Clerk of the House Mrs Mandu Umoren to communicate the House decision to His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel for accent.
