A'IBOM ASSEMBLY REMOVES THE EMBATTLED ORUK ANAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL VICE CHAIRMAN FROM OFFICE.

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has today removes the embattled Oruk Anam Local Government Council Vice Chairman Hon. Abasiama Etokakpan from office.
His removal based on the report of the Ad-hoc Committee on the impeachment of Abasiama Etokakpan as Vice Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council as presented at the floor of the house.
Adopting the report of the ad-hoc Committee as presented by the Committee chairman Hon. (Barr.) Aniefiok Dennis, the Deputy House Leader and member representing Etinan State Constituency, the house resolved that Abasiama Etokakpan Stand removed as the Vice Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council.
Recalled that the 7th Akwa Ibom Assembly on it's 9th sitting of the 3rd session on Thursday 12th August, 2021 on receipt of "impeachment notice' after his earlier reinstatement on Tuesday 3rd August, 2021 by the 7th Assembly and in compliance with Section 44(7&8) of Local Government Administration Law (LGAL) 2017 setup a 7-Man Panel/Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the allegations and on grounds which impeachment is based, and to submit it's report to the house within one month as required by Section 44 (10) LGAL 2017.
According to the report, the committee in their investigation meeting with stakeholders of Oruk Anam Local Government Area observed that the notice of impeachment was affirmed by 11 out of 16 members of Oruk Anam legislative Council; moreso, that there was no statement (s) made by Hon. Abasiama Etokakpan in reply to the allegations as required by Section 44 (5) of the LGAL 2017.
According to the "Notice of Impeachment" with reference number OALC/AD/S/VOL.2/7 dated 5th August, 2021, Hon. Abasiama was accused of accosted the Leader of Oruk Anam Local Government legislative council on the 3rd of August, 2021 and threatened to deal with him both physically and spiritually if he does not call members of Oruk Anam Local Government Council to order and stop forthwith, any attempt to impeach him.
And in furtherance of the said threat, Hon. Etokakpan also conscripted his political acolyte and cronies into sending series of threatening messages, instructed and/caused his family - Ikot Akpan Obong, Nung Ikot, Ikot Udo Offiong of Oruk Anam Local Government Area to send letter dated 8th August, 2021 and signed by Chief Abel Etokakpan (Family Head) and 3 others attempting to further intimidate the Leader of the Legislative Council in connection with the impeachment process initiated against him.
And that, the Vice Chairman has consistently stayed away from office and official functions to the notice of the people of Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
According to the Assembly Spokesman and the Chairman of the Investigation Ad-hoc Committee, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Dennis, The committee submitted that in the absence of evidence(s) to refute these allegations by Hon. Abasiama Etokakpan within the time frame as specified by law, the committee accepts the evidence presented by the protagonist and that the actions of the impeached Vice Chairman in totally, were unlawful and constitute threat and intimidation against the Leader of Oruk Anam Local Government legislative council.
similarly, the committee also observed that the removed Vice Chairman were in breach of the provisions of the Criminal Code Law, 2000 and amount to "Gross Misconduct" as defined by Section 44 of the LGAL 2017.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the 7th Assembly Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey has directed the Clerk of the House Mrs Mandu Umoren to communicate the House resolution to the State Governor His Excellency Gov. Udom Emmanuel and other relevant authorities.
