A'IBOM ASSEMBLY TO BLACKLIST POOH-POOHED COMPANIES.

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport  under the chairmanship of Rt. Hon. David Lawrence, member representing Eket State Constituency today Friday charged companies to complement and reciprocate the effort of government in the discharge of their contracts else House of Assembly will not hesitate to blacklist any company that does not work in tandem with the project specification


The committee make the charge during the days on the spot assessment of road project at Abat in Onna Local Govt Area to ascertain the level of work done by contracting companies and to compare the volume of  work done if it complement with the funds released as enpowered by law. Today, the committee visited Onna, Oruk Anam and Eket Local Govt Area of the state.


At Onna, 


The committee visited Ndon Eyo - Abat - Odio Road under construction by VKS Company. Having compared the volume of work done and government releases to the company, the committee  felt unsatisfied  with the work done after noticing no remarkable challenges from the last Inspection. the committee 

The Project Engineer Engr. Nkereuwem Essien who received the committee said that the delayance of the project is due to payment for properties, obstacles and pandemic but the  community reacted that the company has not returned to site even after the state government has ordered all contracting company to return to site.


The committee members after noticing the nonchallant attitude of VKS observed that the company will not be able to complete the road to actualize the completion agenda Gov. Udom Emmanuel.  However, as enpowered by law, the committee  summoned the management of VKS to appear before the Assembly on the 16th March, 2021.


At Eket

The committee visited Atabong Breach, Eket along Eket - Etinan Road under construction by CCECC, The committee was received by the company's site manager Engr. Rocklin. He said that the road (Eket - Etinan Road, project) has three bridges and that the Atabong Breach is the last of the three bridges which has finished all the pilling stages, the project manager also confirmed that government has given the company 2km right of way from Etinan,  which they are presently working.

Responding, the committee Chairman was impressed over the remarkable work done by the CCECC.



At Oruk Anam


the committee inspected 14km Ikot Ekara - Ikot Esenam - Ukanafun Rd under construction by JMK Construction Company. the CEO of the company John Faysal Harbs who took the committee round the project site disclosed that JMK took over the project from Amaco Construction Company from klm 6., the company assured the committee of timely completion.



It was observed that government revoked the contract from Amaco Construction due to inability to comply with the contract standard and misapplication of funds.



Other areas of the road visited were bridge at Ikot Oto/Ikot Owok, flood control/drainage work at Ikot Akpan Essien by Urban High School.


The committee through the Chairman commended Gov. Udon Emmanuel, JMK Construction Company for the progress of work, the quality of work done, and the community for their understanding and cooperation.


Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudu member representing Ikot Abasi State Constituency used the opportunity appreciation to HE Gov. Udom Emmanuel, and urges the company to complete the areas that was not done by Amaco Construction Company.


The community rosed in numbers to express their appreciation to HE Gov. Udom Emmanuel for bringing this project to their door step. those who spoke on behalf of the community were the village Head Obong Michael Neson and the youth Leader Hon. Imo.


Other members of the committee in the entourage were Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey member representing Oron/Udung Uko, Rt. Hon Mark Esset (Nsit Atai), Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudu (Ikot Abasi), Rt. Hon. Asuquo Archibong (Urue Offong/Uruko), Hon. Udeme Udo (Nsit Ibom), Hon. Victor Ekwere (Mkpat Enin) and the committee's Clerk - Uduak Okon.
