FINANCIAL AUTONOMY TO STATE LEGISLATURES

 Williams Akpabio - (Information Unit) AKHA, Uyo The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) on Tuesday shut down all State House of Assembly in the federation over the non-implementation of financial autonomy for State Legislatures and Judiciary The indifinite Strike action comes after the expiration of all ultimatums issued to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Association.  The union locked the entrance and stationed at the entrance of the all States Assemblies, held banners calling on lawmakers and the federal government to ensure that financial autonomy is implemented before there will be legislation in the country. AKHA WANTS A'IBOM GOVERNMENT TO ENFORCE COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has called on the state government to enforce all COVID-19 protocols, following the resurgence of the pandemic in the state. This followed a Motion brought before the House by the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Ekpo at Plenary on Tuesday. In his Motion, Hon. Ekpo decried what he described as 'unenthusiastic attitude' by the people on the compulsory use of face masks and other flagrant violations of government's laid down COVID-19 guidelines. With the resurgence of the pandemic, the lawmaker expressed worry that the number of active cases may overwhelm available spaces at isolation facilities, owing to poor compliance to the guidelines.
