HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT OF OBONG PAUL EKPO AND 4 OTHERS AS SUBEB CHAIRMAN, MEMBERS

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in its plenary today confirm the appointment of the former State PDP Chairman Obong Paul Ekpo and four others as Chairman and members of Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)


The confirmation follows the report of House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Right and Public Petitions which recommended for the approval of the appointment of His Excellency's nominee for the Board as follows:

1. Obong Paul Ekpo - Chairman

2. Elder Godwin Moses Enoidem - Member

3. Mr. Ekong Akpan Ambrose - Member

4. Iniobong Friday Akpan - Member and

5. Johnny Udo - Member.


According to the report as presented by her Chairman Hon. (Barr.) Victor Ekwere member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, the Committee observed that there was no adverse report against the nominees, that all the nominees met the necessary requirements for appointment as Chairman and members of the Board, and that the nominees are fit and proper for the appointment.

Subsequently, the House after considering the report at the Committee of the Whole, cleared and confirmed the nominees for appointments.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, directed the Clerk, Mrs Mandu Umoren to communicate the resolution of the House to the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel

It could be recalled that House of Assembly in it's plenary of 9th February, 2021 received a message from the the Governor of Akwa Ibom State His Excellency Udom Emmanuel through letter GHU/AKS/S/104/ VOL.9/903 dated 4th February, 2021 nominating a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Paul Ekpo, as Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board.


Others nominated includes Mr Moses Enoidem, Mr Nkorok Ambrose, Ini Friday Akpan, Member and Mr Johnny Udoh as Members



Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, then referred the matter to the House Committee on Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for further legislative actions and to report back to the House within two days.


However, the House adjourned it's plenary to reconvene on Tuesday, 23rd February, 2021 at about 10.00 am
