A'IBOM ASSEMBLY PAYS CONDOLENCE VISIT TO PDP OVER THE DEMISE OF UDO EKPENYONG


The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State  House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aniekan Bassey on Monday led members of the 7th Assembly to the State Secretariat of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atan Offot, Uyo on a condolence visit to the leadership of the Party over the demise of the party Chairman, late Obong Udo Ekpenyong.


In his speech, the Speaker described the late party Chairman as a commmitted servant leader whose loyalty to the party remains unquestionable till his death.


He described the late party Chairman as a  man known for his tenacity, uprightness and discipline who will always fight for the interest of the downtrodden.


The Speaker lamented that the death of Obong Udo Ekpenyong who was like a father figure to members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly remains painful to the legislators, the People's Democratic party (PDP) and Akwa Ibom State people in general.


He charged the People's Democratic Party in the state to emulate his examplary virtues and legacies.


In his response, the state Acting Chairman of the People's Democratic Party, Mr Lawrence Udosen thanked members for their show of concern as regards the condolence visit.


He described the late party Chairman as a man of pedigree whose vision was geared towards transforming and uplifting the Peoples Democratic Party in the state to greater heights.


He recalled that the late Chairman brought diplomacy and transparency in all he did which included State Congresses and the last local government elections which were adjudged free, fair, credible and peaceful.


Udosen who lamented that the deceased will be missed by all, enjoined all PDP faithful in the state not to relent in galvanizing members in their various wards, chapters and local government areas to be united, and focused and to ensure that the party stays strong.


The Akwa Ibom State Government had in a release announced that the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong who was the 6th PDP Chairman in the state, died in the early hours of Tuesday, 19th January, 2021.
