A BILL TO ESTABLISH AKWA IBOM STATE HEALTH INSURANCE AGENCY PASSES SECOND READING


A Bill for a Law to establish the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency  has  passed second reading in the State House of Assembly .


The Bill which is sponsored by the member representing Abak State Constituency, Hon. Udeme Otong seeks to improve and harness private sector participation  in the provision of healthcare services in the state.


 Highlighting the importance of the Bill on Tuesday plenary, the lawmaker noted that  the Bill will " ensure that every resident of the state will have access to quality health care service, protect families from financial hardship of huge medical bills, control the rise in cost of health care and ensure the availability of funds to the health sector for improved services. "


In their various submissions, the House members unanimously said the Bill is people oriented and  will aid in controlling the high cost of health care in the state as well as give people access to medical care , thereby reducing high mortality rate among the citizens of Akwa Ibom State.


The Speaker, Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey committed the Bill to the Committee on Health for in depth study and scrutiny after it was read the second time.


Also in the plenary today, A Bill For the Establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Input Supply Authority and Connected Matters was read the first time and directed to the Committee on Rules, Ethics and Public Privileges for rescheduling.


Similarly,  The Report  of the Adhoc Committee on the 2019 Financial Statement and Audited Accounts of Akwa Ibom State Government  was Presented on the floor of the House by the House Leader, Rt Hon. Udo Kieran, member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency.


Also, the Report of the House Committee on Industry, Commerce and Tourism on A Bill For A Law To Provide For Preservation and Restoration of Historical Properties and Cultural Heritage Sites in Akwa Ibom State  was adopted and passed into Law after it was considered by the Committee  of the Whole.


Meanwhile, the House has adjourned its plenary to Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021..
