Gruesome Murder of Gabriel Bassey Edward

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Tuesday's plenary through a motion moved by Hon. (Barr.) Otobong Bob, member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency resolved to call for a thorough and Swift Investigation into the gruesome murder of Gabriel Bassey Edward; 


Mandate and call on the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State to ensure that this horrific murder case is properly handled and the culprit deligently prosecuted.

Condole with the family of the deceased, the students community of University of Uyo, the Catholic Youth Organization and other friends and associates of the deceased.


Moreso the Hon.Speaker mandated the house committee on Security, Youth and Sports to follow up the case and report back to the house on a monthly basis. Similarly the Clerk was directed to communicate to the appropriate quarters.


Similarly, at the plenary same day, A Bill for a law to Establish Akwa Ibom State Economic Advisory Council and for other matters connected therewith was read the first time and referred to House Committee on Rules, Business Ethics, and privileges for rescheduling.

A'IBOM ASSEMBLY PASSES AMENDED TRADITIONAL RULERS LAW 2020 INTO LAW

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in its plenary today Tuesday 21st September, 2021 passes amended Traditional Rulers Law 2020 into law. this follows the report presented by Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudo - Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency on "A Bill for a Law to amend the Traditional Rulers Law 2020 and for other matters connected therewith." With the unanimous voiced vote support of members, the Bill was read the third time and passed to Law. According to the Bill, Amendment of Cap 134 LAKS 2000 is expected to correct the long title to Akwa Ibom State Council of Traditional Rulers and tenure of the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers to pave way for second term after the first two years in office at the discreation of the Governor and on the approval of the House of Assembly.
