The Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey today led the Leadership, Members, the Clerk, Commissioners, Management and the entire Staff of the Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission to the Assembly's end of the year 2020 Thanksgiving Service at the Assembly Chapel of Peace tagged " It is good to give thanks to God"


The Speaker who read the first Bible reading from Psalm 92:1 and on behalf of the 7th Assembly thank God for the protection of lives of all members and staff of the Assembly irrespective of all the challenges of the year. He added that the year has been so ached, people were sitting on the edge, people died all over the globe but by the reason of God's grace, Covid-19 didn't affect any member or Staff of the Assembly.

Similarly, the Assembly helmsman thank God for the sustenance of peace in the 7th Assembly, he noted that one thing they have also enjoyed from God this year in the 7th Assembly is that even with the COVID 19 outbreak, they were able to perform legislative duties effectively.


Speaker Bassey appreciated his colleagues for the support and cooperation "Together we have worked in unity and implemented our primary constitutional responsibilities which include law making, oversight functions and effective representation" and reiterated to do more people - oriented bills and motions that will affect lives positively. He assured his staff that this year's Christmas celebration and welfare packages will be the best ever in the history of the Assembly.


In a homily, on the theme: "It is good to give thanks to the Lord", the Guest Minister, Pastor (Dr.) Sylvanus Ukafia of Insight Bible Church admonished Assembly personnels to always  express gratitude to God, Psalms 100:4 "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." for thanksgiving is the index of maturity in Christianity.


Also graced the occasion was an inspirational Choir rendition by Assembly Choir "K'ini Ukpong mi Etide"

Akpakip Oro Staff Association led by her President Mrs Yingi Edunam, Rt. Hon Effiong Bassey former Deputy Speaker in the 6th Assembly and  member representing Oron/Udung Uko State Constituency, and Hon (Chief) Effiong Johnson member representing Mbo State Constituency also added colour to the service.


Rev. Eneobong Joshua of Scripture Union also gave biblical discourse in the service and further presented Devotionals to the Hon. Speaker Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, House Leader Rt. Hon.(Sir.) Udo Kieran Akpan, member representating Oruk Anam State Constituency and the Clerk of the House Mrs. Mandu Umoren.


Also present at the service were dignitaries that graced the occasion including present and former members, members of LEWA led by the  President (Speaker's wife), Commissioners of Assembly Service Commission, men of Fire Service, Security Officers, Medical Officers, Clergies, Assembly Chaplain Pastor Joseph Equereobong and staff of the Assembly.
