AKHA Appropriation Committee on Oversight Function visits Dakkada Cottage Industry, Worship Centre, Ibom Luxury Estate and Victor Attah International Airport.
AKHA Committee on Appropriations and Finance led by the Chairman, Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudoh, Member Representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency on Friday went for oversight function on special projects in the State as part of the activities required for the passage of year 2021 Appropriation Bill.
Project site visited includes:
Dakkada Cottage Industries is located at Itam in Itu local Government Area and is supervised by the State Ministry of Trade and Investment with Sir (Prince) Ukpong Akpabio as the Commissioner, the former AKEES Initiative housed Plastic factory, Ibom Tissue factory, pencil and Toothpick factory.
According to the supervising Commissioner Prince Akpabio, the Managing Director Mr. Tedy Thomson and the Production Manager Mr. Bassey Friday Moses, Dakkada Cottage Industries has completed its plans to officially launch one of it products "Ibom Tissue" into the general market and that the raw material for the production of Ibom Tissue paper, Pencil and Ibom Toothpick is bamboo.
The commissioner listed major challenges of the industry to include Electricity, Storage space, drainage, a legal framework to support the sustainability of the industry after this administration, etc.
The committee discovered that the major challenge to the factory is electricity as they are still running the two 500Kva as the only means of power supply. The Committee pledged to assist the Industry by interfacing with the SA to the Governor on power to help link the Industry's electricity to National grid and also promised to facilitate any legal framework that will enable the continuity of the Industry after the present administration.
International Worship Centre.
Similarly, the Committee, visited International Worship Centre. They were received into the site by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, Barr. Christopher Udoh and conducted round the building by the Site Manager Engr. Charles Okorie who disclosed that the 9.3 metres height tower and 5,500 seating capacity auditorium worship center was contractually to be completed in March 2022.
Ibom Luxury Estate
The Committee also visited the proposed Luxury Estate, along Airport road. Making enquires about the estate, The permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, Barr. Christopher Udo who represented the Commissioner Mr. Ime Ekpo disclosed that the estate is about 165 hectres capacity with a proposed central power system, and that compensation has been paid for the Land, he added that parameters fencing of the estate is ongoing and that contract has been awarded but left to be mobilisd for a single and a dual carriage access roads in the estate. The committee pleaded with the overseeing agency to give premium to citizens of Akwa Ibom.
The last point of call for the practical bugdet exercise was at the construction site of International Terminal at Victor Attah's International Airport where the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolumpum Etteh took the lawmakers round the project site, the commissioner described the project as "not a newspaper show but a reality" and that the building is not based on size but the latest component facilities. He assured the legislators that the project will be completed by December, 2021 with the latest facilities that will make the airport to compete favourable with others in the world.
The Chairman, and entire members of AKHA Committee on Appropriations and Finance commended Rt. Hon. Okpolumbum Ette for the rate of work done in tackling projects assigned to him in confirmation this Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel and remarked that as Mr. Fix, he always produced result wherever he's found.
