The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr. Godwill Umoh accompanied by Commissioner 2, Dr. Roberta Edem, Commissioner 4, Barr Godwin Awah, Executive Secretary to the Commission, Elder Sylvanus Akpan and Head of Departments today presented the commission's Budget estimate for 2021 to the House Committee on Appropriation at Finance at the Assembly Complex.
The Chairman, presented a total budgetary outlay of N565,000,000 (Five and sixty-five million naira) for 2021 fiscal year and noted that the budget which stands at 215,000,000 as approved by the State Ministry for Economic Development was grossly inadequate for the Commission to perform optimally.
Barr. Umoh expressed displeasure over lack of accommodation to the commission, which he think is the most critical aspect of his budget presentation. Explaining further, he remarked that it is unusual for the Commission to lack office space and facilities for the Staff of the Commission to carry out their responsibilities.
The lawyer cum politician, a one time commissioner and PDP stakeholder noted that from analysis, about 20 States of the Federation has their own different structures to service the activities of the House of Assembly whereas his Commission is a tenant to the House of Assembly which is unusual.
Highlighting more of the budget, the Commission boss and immediate past Legal Adviser, People's Democratic Party noted that the Commission which is backed by the law was created to recruits, promotes and ensure discipline of the Staff and prayed the Appropriation Committee to upment the commission's 2029 budget in major areas to include: training and development of members and staff of the Commission, consultancy services for automated payroll system for the commission, purchase of generating set, renovation of offices of the commission complex, purchase of motor vehicles for staff, library development.
