AKHA Passes to Law "A Bill for a Law to Establish And Regulate Akwa Ibom State Official Symbols, And for other matters connected therewith.

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in it's plenary today passes Bill tittled "A Bill for a Law to Establish And Regulate Akwa Ibom State Official Symbols, And for other matters connected therewith." to Law. 


The Bill establish the official symbol of the State to include the State Anthem, State Flag, State Coat of Arms, Creed, and Slogan and that every 23rd September shall be observed as State Public Holiday/Thanksgiving Service to Mark Akwa Ibom Anniversary.

It could be recalled that His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel forwarded this Executive Bill Executive Bill Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for enactment into law on the need for Akwa Ibom State  to have her official symbols 

The bill which was given accelerated legislative process, passed through first and second reading and the Speaker Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey in his ruling referred it to the House Committee on Information which is to report back to the House in two days. 

Today at the plenary,  the Chairman House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Dennis, member representating Etinan State Constituency presented his report at the floor of the house. In his report, the lawmaker said the committee conducted public hearing to get input from the public about the Bill which forms part of the report.

Presenting the report, the house in a voice vote adopted the recommendation of the committee as the Bill sails through third reading and passed to Law.

Similarly, the Speaker Bassey directed the Clerk of the House to communicate His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel for accent.

According to the bill, the Unity Anthem which has a special import for the people of the state shall be sung at state functions and other special occasions, while the state flag shall be one of the symbols of government and people of the state to be exhibited or flown in all public places in the state. 

According to the bill, the Coat of Arms shall consist of colours and designs representing  the distinctive ideals and aspirations of the the people of Akwa Ibom  and will be displayed in all public places in the state wherever appropriate alongside the National Coat of Arms of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

According to the Bill, the State Creed which shall consist of the wordings and phrases as shall be published in the State official Gazette, shall be a solidarity pledge that will have significance and commitment for the people and will be recited at all public functions in the state. 

Similarly, the State Slogan according to the bill shall be "Land of Promise", while the Creed shall be the Dakkada Creed. 

Meanwhile the House has adjourned plenary to reconvene on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
