Williams Akpabio - (Aide) AKHA, Uyo The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is the State legislature of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. It is located at Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo the State Capital.  There have been seven different House of Assemblies, the very first Assembly was inaugurated on the 20th January, 1992 with 48 Honourable Members, 33 National Republican Conversation (NRC) and 15 Social Democratic Party (SDP) Members under the leadership of three (3) Speaker Hon. (Chief) Jimmy Jimmy Ntuen, Hon. (Barr.) Nse Ben Ekanem and Hon. Barr. Henry Afang. The 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly inaugurated on the 10th June, 2019 currently has 25 members under the People's Democratic Party which is the current ruling party in the State and a member of the All progressive Congress under the Speakership of Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey, the Honorable Speaker of the 7th Assembly, the 12th Speaker and a two term member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly popularly known as "The Working Speaker"  is indeed, a  noiseless achiever.  Born on 30th August, 1978 and hails from Ekim Enen Village in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He attended Christ the King Nursery and Primary School and had his secondary education at Uyo High School;  and Senior Science College Abak. The apt lawmaker graduated from University of Uyo with a Degree in Chemistry. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties under the Chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, a one time Speaker of the 6th Assembly and member representating Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency Wednesday went on their oversight function visits 21 Story Intelligent Building now known as Dakkada Tower's, and the International Terminal Building at Obong Atah International Airport. Both projects is supervised by Ministry of Special Duties under the commissionership of Rt. Hon. Okplupum Ette. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today passed to law a Bill for a law to establish the Akwa Ibom State fiscal Responsibility board for prudent management of the State resources and ensure greater accountability and transparency in fiscal operations and other matters connected therewith. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today cleared and confirm the seventeen nominees for boards and committees. The adoption followed a report presented at the floor of the house by the Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Human Right and public Petitions Hon. Victor Ekwere member representating Mkpat Enin State Constituency. The Board and commissions are Akwa Ibom State Civil Commission, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Service Commission, Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board and State Technical School Board. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today passed into law a bill for a law to establish the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission and other matters connected therewith. This followed adoption of the report of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as presented by it's Chairman Rt. Hon. Mark Esset Member representating Nsit Atai State Constiuency. This bill with sixteen amendment is passed to correct the lacuna created by the Local Government Administration bill 2007. The House also adopted the report of Public Account Committee on Audited Account of Thirty One Local Government  Council of Akwa Ibom State for the year ended 31st December, 2014.

One year after: A peep into the scorecard of Akwa Ibom 7th Assembly

The 7 th  Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly being presided over by Aniekan Bassey who represents Uruan state constituency and elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is believed to have recorded many significant achievements since it was inaugurated more than a year ago. Predominately made up of members of the PDP, the 26-member assembly has only one member who was elected on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The 7 th  assembly recently completed one year in office, thus giving room for an assessment of its scorecard, pitfalls as well as challenges.
